Homemade Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffles: Fall Acorns

Every Christmas season, it’s tradition that my family makes Buckeyes! They are everyone’s favorite holiday treat! These buckeyes are peanut butter truffles covered in chocolate. Since I usually only have buckeyes at Christmas time, I decided to make them into an adorable fall version! These Peanut Butter truffles are covered in chocolate and then dipped in peanuts to make them look like acorns. I added a little pretzel stick to give them a little stem.

These chocolate peanut butter acorns taste like a Reese’s but BETTER! I mean, just look at that delicious peanut butter filling. Covered with peanuts, these chocolate peanut butter treats taste almost like a cross between a reese’s and a snickers. Next time, I think i’ll use caramel sauce as the “glue” to stick the peanuts to. YUM!

These Chocolate Peanut Butter truffles keep extremely well in the fridge for a week, or in the freezer for up to 2 months. Make them ahead of time for Halloween and enjoy them with a warm mug of apple cider on Halloween night while watching your scary movie marathon.

Prep Time 1 hour 15 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 13 minutes
Servings: 12 buckeyes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 4 tbsp butter softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/3 cup peanuts chopped
  • 6 thin pretzel sticks

Method

  1. In a bowl, add the peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Stir to combine.
  2. Add in the milk and stir again. I like to use my hands for this step.
  3. Make acorn shaped balls and place the balls on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Chill in the freezer for 30-45 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, add the chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave at 30 second increments stirring until melted completely.
  5. Coat each acorn ball in the melted chocolate using a fork to drip the excess melted chocolate off. Place back on the parchment paper and put back in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  6. Dip the acorns tops in the melted chocolate and then into the chopped peanuts. Allow the chocolate to set for 1 minute before sticking half of a pretzel stick into the top of the acorn.
